My life undulates to the rhythms of Jazz. Jazz of all eras, from Pops Armstrong to Fletcher Henderson to Coleman Hawkins to Bird to Trane to Cecil Taylor to Shannon Jackson and on and on. During my childhood, in the city of my birth, Detroit,MI, the streets and alleyways pulsated to the tantalizing tempi eminating from the churches, the pool halls, the juke joints, the greasy spoons, the record shops, and the glitzy showbars. My Jazz is the Jazz of The Delta Rhythm Boys, Mahalia Jackson, Clyde McPhatter, The Clovers, Lena Horne, The Inkspots, The Golden Gate Quartet. Miles Davis is a saint. “Dear Lord” by John Coltrane is my constant prayer. Yea, though I walk in the shadows the bright falsetto of Eddie Kendricks will show me to the light cast into my pathway for guidance. Let us offer a screaming prayer while The Jazztet’s “Killer Joe” provides the Processional March
